Research Grants

The American German Shepherd Dog Charitable Foundation believes the key to improving the diseases of the German Shepherd Dog lie in medical and genetic research.  Here are the grants that have been awarded to date.  Including the AKC Charitable Health Foundation funds, the AGSDCF, to date, has funded almost $200,000 in research grants for the health of our breed.

** Grants, January to December 2007
The Foundation donates funds during the year to the AKC Canine Health Foundation and the Morris Animal Foundation. A number of sponsorships and grant support are not shown during this period as requests from the above-named foundations did not reach the AGSDCF until too late in the year to address them. Early 2008 grant support will appear in the 2008 record.

* Large Grant made November 2001
At the November, 2001 AGSDCF Board meeting, the Officers & Directors approved a $50,000 grant as long as the AKC Canine Health Foundation made a matching grant of $50,000 for a total of $100,000. The $100,000 will be used for research that will benefit the German Shepherd Dog. The AKC Canine Health Foundation has agreed to the match and the funds have been forwarded to them. Noted researchers are submitting proposals to the AKC Canine Health Foundation. Both organizations have to agree on the proposal that will be funded. As of May 31, 2005, the AKC Canine Health Foundation Donor Advised Fund has a balance of $41,282 that has yet to be allocated for canine health research.
